Course Background:
In December 2009, the Canadian Accounting Standards Board (CASB) issues a new set of accounting standards specifically for Canadian privately held companies. As of 2011 private Canadian enterprises have to start using either these new GAAP standards or IFRS.If you are a private Canadian company, you have to be asking yourself, "If we have to spend money on a switch of accounting standards anyway, should we jump into IFRS?"

On July 9, 2009 the International Accounting Standards Board introduced an independent International Financial Reporting Standard (IFRS) for small and medium-sized entities (SME's) which are estimated to account for over 95 percent of all companies around the world.
If you are involved with SME's you need to become familiar with exactly what these new standards consist of, and what these changes mean.
