Petryk's Picks
New Year Greeting
By William Petryk

I want to take advantage of this column to wish Paul Calleri, our editor, and all the contributors to The GAAP continued success in 2009.  This newsletter began as a project by our editor who had a vision of an on-line news source for members of the accounting profession.  With the increase importance of international financial standards and the Sarbanes-Oxley Act (SOX) accountancy has been subjected to many changes during the short life of this newsletter’s existence.  It is no longer the static business that many of the general public still perceives it to be.  The present recession will bring new challenges in 2009.  For most to the past decade CFO’s of large organizations were chosen for their expertise in finance and banking.  The focus has now shifted to cost control and information reporting. In other words:  management accounting.  Hence there is a need for quality news dissemination that keeps accountant up-to-date of new requirements and changes in their functions.

I believe that The GAAP has met Paul’s original expectations.  Circulation has grown remarkably.  The quality of the articles is excellent.  It is my hope that this trend will continue for many more years and that all business people will be able to derive benefit from its contents.  To all readers who have helped make this a reality, I offer my best wishes for 2009 and the hope that everyone will rise to the challenges that it will present.
